Vermont State Energy Legislation Updates

REV is the only organization dedicated solely to working toward increased renewable energy use in Vermont. It is important that you contact your representatives and let them know how important you feel legislation in support of renewable energy is. Don't be shy about calling your legislators at home. They are elected by you and will be open to hearing from you. You can find contact information for your representatives from the legislative directory.

There are two energy bills that REV is focused on this year: S.209 and S.350.

• S.209

S.209 is the reincarnation of H.520 - the energy bill that was passed in 2007 but vetoed by Governor Douglas. After the legislature failed to override the veto the Senate recast the bill as S.209 with some changes that would lessen the Governor's objections (like removing the increased property tax on the VT Yankee nuclear plant). The Senate passed the bill during the veto session but the House failed to take it up until the beginning of this year's session. The bill has now passed the House and the House and Senate agreed on a final bill
The bill is scheduled to be signed by Governor Douglas on 3/19/2008 at 2:00 in his ceremonial office.


• S.350

This is a new comprehensive energy bill that has passed through the Senate Nat. Resource and Energy committee and is now in Senate Finance.
